Evening Service

A new service at our centre
in Hackney every Wednesday

At our Evening Service members, staff and volunteers come together to share experiences and contributions.

We give each other practical and emotional support; forging new relationships and identities.

I’ve made lots of new friends. This group has become my other family, my Wednesday family.

The Evening Service is a relaxed, welcoming, friendly, diverse and creative space.

Members can be themselves, share good humour, support each other and join activities they like, such as art, cooking, playing games and music.

Members work together with staff and volunteers to shape the service in a way that works for them.

At dinnertime, this close-knit community comes together around the table to share a meal they’ve prepared together, strengthening bonds through food, conversation, and laughter.

How can I access
this service?

Becoming a member of our Evening Service starts with filling out a Referral Form and having an assessment with one of our key workers at the centre.

We accept self-referrals and referrals from caseworkers, other professionals, families and carers.

All referrals are placed on our waiting list. Once a space is available, a member of staff will make contact to arrange a visit to the centre and an assessment

If you meet the referral criteria and have funding in place, we can begin the assessment process for this service.

If you wish to refer yourself or someone else to any of the Headway East London services, please fill our Referral Form.

For questions about the referral form or to request a word or PDF version of the form, please contact info@headwayeastlondon.org or call on 020 7749 7790.

Please note that Headway Services must be funded for a person to attend and or receive the service. See the Referral Form for service costs.

How does it work?

Our Evening Service is open on Wednesdays from 4pm – 8pm, for 48 weeks of the year.

It takes a holistic approach focusing on the goals of each individual member.

All activities are encouraged but optional, and each day looks different as a result.

People remain members as long as they want and need to, and for as long as funding can be secured.

People living with brain injury often feel marginalised and alone, but here they feel part of a group and accepted for who they are.

Our Projects

Food

Our members work together with staff and volunteers to cook dinner for everyone, sharing recipes, skills and stories along the way.

The kitchen is a creative space for our members to get involved, or just enjoy a delicious meal!

Art & Music

Art and music are part of the fabric of our community. Art is a powerful means of reclaiming identity, as well integrating physical, emotional and occupational development.

Our music sessions bring our members that unique sense of joy, freedom and satisfaction that is such a big part of the pleasure of making collaborative music.

Games

From dominoes to pool to crosswords, our members have many opportunities to play, connect, and have fun together.

Games aren’t just about entertainment—they help rebuild social skills, boost confidence, and create a strong sense of belonging.
