Cut Price Portraits with Billy!

Headway East London have been working with the Barbican Centre as their community partner for almost a year: running community workshops, working with their Young Poets to create new work, and creating a collaborative film with an artist and member.

Before lockdown, we were planning a brand new print-based community workshop, based on the Barbican’s exhibition Masculinities: Liberation through Photography.

Whilst we can’t host it in person anymore, we’re asking everyone to join in with Billy’s workshop virtually from home!

This workshop forms part of Headway East London’s emergency fundraising campaign #HomeNotAlone – so if you take part in the workshop and enjoy it, please consider making a donation: https://bit.ly/HomeNotAlone

All you need for the workshop is:

  • A handful of wax crayons
  • A biro/ballpoint pen (any colour)
  • Masking tape (or sellotape if you don’t have any)
  • Blank paper
  • An image you would like to copy/ make a print of

Enjoy! Please tag us in your creations on social media and remember to hashtag #Masculinities #HomeNotAlone

Want to know how Billy developed the workshop? We’re hosting a “Barbican Takeover” on Wednesday 13th May where Billy will be sharing some behind-the-scenes glimpses of the process on their Instagram page (find out more here)!
