We do things a bit differently at Headway East London. Find out more about our work, our team, and what we’re here to do.
Headway East London is a charity supporting people affected by brain injury. Working across 13 London boroughs we offer specialist support and services for over 200 survivors, family, friends and carers in the local area each week.
OUR MISSION
We empower our community of brain injury survivors and their families to imagine new possibilities – ones filled with creativity, embracing diversity and backed by specialist support.
OUR VISION
Brain injury survivors experience a world which is accessible to them, and where their contributions are valued and celebrated.
We provide therapies, advocacy, family support and community support work alongside our day service: a venue where members can make the most of their abilities and interests. We believe that every one of our members has something to contribute to both Headway East London and the wider community. Our occupational projects include an art studio, music groups, and a professional kitchen.
We also promote awareness and understanding of brain injury by sharing information, running projects that bring our members and the public together, offering training to professionals and businesses, and acting as an educational resource for universities.
Our members say that Headway East London helps them to be themselves. They get the support they need with their human rights respected and upheld. They feel they belong.
Our services are designed around our members’ individual circumstances, needs and aspirations. And our staff and volunteers go above and beyond so that our members can live their best lives after brain injury.
We’ve got ambitious plans for the next five years.
We want to be the leading brain injury organisation in London providing high quality, innovative specialist support, and to have a strong voice across the health and social care sector. We also want to create more opportunities for our members to share their contributions and talents, and to interrogate what true collaboration looks like in the process.
This strategy – which was developed in collaboration with our members, staff, volunteers and trustees – explains how we’ll get there.
Members, staff and volunteers are part of a community where everyone is valued and respected. No one wears a uniform or a name badge. Everyone’s identity and role is important and valuable.
We run Steering Groups where feedback and co-creating is encouraged. Many of our volunteers have gone on to become staff members. We believe that every person involved with our charity has something to contribute to both Headway East London and the wider community.
