Home Not Alone – An Update

Last month, we launched an online campaign with an ambitious target of £10,000. This emergency fundraiser would help combat the huge loss of income we’re facing (estimated up to £82,000) as a result of Covid-19, and ensure that we can continue our vital work supporting local people affected by brain injury – many of whom are already experiencing social isolation, and many of whom are particularly vulnerable to the virus.

As you can read elsewhere on our blog, we have transformed our services so that those who are shielding can continue to receive our holistic model of practical and emotional support, where friendship and creativity are an important complement to therapies, (re)discovering skills, advocacy and advice. We also had to rethink our fundraising, to mitigate the effects of the postponement and cancellation of sponsored challenges and other public fundraising events, and to reach supporters via socially-distanced lines of communication only! The #HomeNotAlone campaign was a bit of an experiment.

Well, we were delighted with its success. In total, we raised an incredible £16,561 (including £900 raised by an online Zoom quiz hosted by our very own Zuber, and another quiz hosted by our corporate supporters Irwin Mitchell) – PLUS a whopping £2,023 from t-shirt and print sales! That makes it £18,584 in total.

We did so much better than we could have hoped, and we couldn’t be happier or more touched by your donations and kind words. You donated direct, helped us build and promote the campaign, shared our posts, liked our messages and helped us spread the word.

You can become a Friend of Headway East London for as little as £3 a month! We’ll send you regular updates about your impact, and a smart badge designed in our art studio.
