New Peer Support Worker

Posted: June 13, 2016

Using their own personal experience of brain injury, this Peer Support Worker will provide assistance, signposting and information to both survivors and families. The part-time post holder will split work between our centre here in Hackney, and in our community support groups across East London. They will join an existing Peer Support Worker appointed last year, with each working on alternative days to provide weekly support.

They will also form a vital link to the charity’s Casework Service, which provides advice and advocacy on a number of issues including rehabilitation, housing, social services, the welfare system and the care pathway.

Tony Palluotto joins us after previously volunteering for the charity – he knows our members well and brings with him a wealth of experience (both personal and professional) that will be invaluable to the people seeking support.

Headway East London’s Chief Executive, Anthony Bonfil, said the sponsorship will make a huge difference in supporting those affected by brain injury:

“We have worked closely with Bolt Burdon Kemp over recent years and are thrilled to be continuing this partnership. Their support and generous contribution towards this additional post will mean both survivors and their families will have even greater access to advice and assistance throughout their journey.”

Marilene Antoni, Partner at Bolt Burdon Kemp adds:

“The team at Bolt Burdon Kemp is incredibly proud to sponsor the Peer Support Worker role at Headway East London. For many survivors and their families, the effects and challenges of brain injury can be overwhelming and life changing. To be able to offer the opportunity to discuss this with a Peer Support Worker possessing a personal understanding of these issues, and using their own experiences of suffering a brain injury, will prove an invaluable support to many.”

This is such great news as Dean, our first Peer Support Worker, has been such a fantastic addition to the team – we can’t wait to also have Tony with us!
